CV Professionals sample cover letters

Hiring managers will often pass over a good resume that doesn't have a cover letter. This is because the cover letter summarizes your resume, and highlights your experience and skills directly relevant to the position you are applying. It also shows an attention to detail, and a desire to make the the hiring manager's task easier. You can imagine how much better qualified your resume will have to be to compete against that kind of cover letter!

Here are the before and after versions of a cover letter from the same person for the same position.

Each job type is different

Each job requires a different approach to the resume. Where one type of job benefits most from professional accreditations, another benefits most from successful projects, or sales numbers. Knowing these differences is critical to writing a professional quality resume or CV, and is a fundamental part of the CV Professional resume writing process.

Remember that the job of your resume or CV is to be noticed, and get you that interview!

Stylist resume

Hair stylists are part sales person, part customer service, and part tradesman. Each of these jobs has to show up in a good stylist resume. Also business numbers and achievements are necessary and are easier to determine for stylists than for many other types of jobs. See sample stylist resume

Janitorial / custodian resume

When you think about it, the job of a custodian is essentially that of a tradesman mixed with customer service. If you doubt the tradesman side, check up on the long list of handyman type tasks that most custodians peroform as part of their daily job.

Office administrative resume

Administrative positions are largely organizational and customer service oriented. If you think of a supply sergeant in the Army, they have to organize and track the inventory, and have people skills to deal with the Army personnel who use that inventory. Not many people think of supply sergeant as administrative positions, but many of the jobs they perform are the same. Not to mention that some offices seem like a warzone when things get busy!

High tech resume

CVs and resumes can vary quite a bit for people in technology jobs such as telecommunications, fibre optics, networking, computer security, hardware development, and software development. However, nearly all these positions have in common that they focus on projects (successful projects are good) and accreditation. High tech jobs require a high level of education, and continual additional education to stay up to date with the skills and knowledge that are in demand today. Projects, education, and skills all need to be highlighted on a high tech resume.

Public service resume

People working in the Federal Public Service have a very different system than anywhere else in Canada. The whole process is very strict, and there are many rules you need to know about when applying to a public service position - different rules depending on if you are in the public service already or not! Public service resumes are all about showing that you have experience in the government, and that you meet every requirement for the job posting.

Sales resume

Anyone in sales can sell themselves in an interview, generally. They do it for a living, so its the same basic idea. But in a resume they need to show numbers - lots of good looking numbers over time. There are other skills that are nice, but those numbers are the top 5 things hiring managers will be looking at.

Executive resume

Of all the types of resumes, executives are the hardest. High paid executives can change companies or even industries and bring with them their management skills, organizational skills, successful project experience, and people skills. But often its hard to pick out the specifics for the job you are applying for - there is so much good and relevant information from your career that you can't easily narrow it down.
